JGLS STUDENT COUNCIL 2014-15

Committee Report for Semester A, 2014-15.

 

The drafting committee has had 3 meetings over a period of a month. In the first meeting we decided on the various procedures that needs to govern the working of the committee. We unanimously decided that we would hold a meeting every week in order to discuss the progress we would make with the work that would be allotted. In addition we also made it a rule if any member missed more that 2 meeting, immediate disqualification would follow.

 

We decided, so was our sole purpose of establishment, that we would have to quite literally write down every policy that would affect the student community. In the course of doing that, we would also have to debate on the issues that would have an impact on them and find the one that was best suited for both the students and the administration.

 

Our focus, for the last semester, was on the discipline enforcement procedures. We split ourselves into groups and divided the work amongst ourselves. We worked on the reclassification of offences, procedure for warden raids in hostels, evidence collection by the wardens or the checking officials. In addition we also debated on issues concerning the checking procedure at the main gate regarding the use of breath analyzers. Also we were tasked with helping the student treasurer on the revision of the re-sit and the re-evaluation fees.

 

Our work on these issues were have achieved varying degrees of progress. The draft policy on the procedures for the wardens for raiding and collection of evidence has been completed and the policy on the revision of re-evaluation and re-sit policy has also been submitted. The credit largely goes to the treasurer who independently worked on the re-sit and the re-evaluation policy due to certain constraints on the members of the committee.

 

In the coming semester, we believe that the rest of the work that needs to our attention is attended to and the work on drafting the other pending policies is completed.

 

One of the problems we faced was the lack of activity inter-committee activity, which is what our work depends on. We hope, in the coming semester, to see a lot more collaboration and bilateral activity with other committees in order to ensure that their work is completed and the student community, benefitted.
