JGLS STUDENT COUNCIL 2014-15

Committee Report for Semester A, 2014-15.

 

The Health Centre Support Committee of the SGRC was formed in with a view of increasing the health facilities available on campus to both the students and staff. The committee consists of 4 members and met about four times since its inception. The various goals set out for the semester were:

 

• To make basic emergency medicines and first aid kits available at various locations on the campus like every hostel blocks, the main admin block etc. to ensure that one need not run all the way until the health centre for minor ailments.

• To get a gynaecologist to visit campus weekly

• To collate data on serious illnesses within the student body and ensure quality care at the Health Centre

• To make people aware of the various health related issues prevailing.

• To try and provide basic health education to the people in the local community.

• To increase the number of blood donation camps and also make arrangements for pledging of eyes.

• To make the campus disabled friendly and to increase the no. of wheel chairs and crutches on campus.

 

With respect to these we needed to co-ordinate with the Health Centre on campus. The Doctor on campus has been quite supportive in these aspects. The new first aid kits will be in place soon after the beginning of the semester. There has already been increase in the number of wheel chairs and the crutches on campus and measures are being taken with regard to the maintenance of them also.
The campus already organises one blood donation camp every year, the aim of the committee was to conduct one at least one more blood donation camp. The health committee along with the Health Centre has been working to make this happen. The pledging of the eyes will be held on one of the suitable days in the 2nd semester.

As far as the HCS committee was concerned, there was not much difficulty or any problems with the committee other than the fact that at times support from the Health Centre is lacking. It takes a lot of convincing to get the in-charge to agree to a few things. And this was the only reason why things got delayed.

The Health Centre Support Committee promises to bring all the objectives into action at the earliest.
