FOOD AND MESS COMMITTEE
Committee Report for Semester A, 2014-15.
The FMC has held meetings on daily basis from the day it was formed. As per the FMC policies, every Wednesday, the members met to discuss the problems faced. Over all, the FMC has held 8-10 meetings. All members regularly attended the meeting.
Goals of FMC:

Food issues raised by international students which includes the spiciness level of food and extremely less variety in continental food,

Cutlery issues- No cutlery available during peak lunch time hours, oil and grease on plates,

Equipments in the Kitchen- certain equipments were in non working condition

Variety in Menu- Bournvita or any chocolate powder with tea and coffee, cold milk to be served during snacks,

Temperature of the food

More food options in the vending machines and more vending machines in every hostel block.

Waiting period for food during peak hours.

Coffee machines in hostel

Revamping the Delicious menu

New schemes in convenient store and other food outlets

Meetings with Vendors on campus to get fresh fruits.
Goals achieved/ not achieved

The cutlery problem was solved within two weeks and a new dish washer was ordered by the Sodexo team to remove all the problems related to oil and grease on plates.

A meeting was held with representatives of international students. Two days in a week were allotted to international students where the taste would be according to their preference. Continental food is specially made according to their taste on those 2 days.

Variety in Menu was increased once the FMC was allowed to decide menu for every week with the Sodexo Team. It was seen that no one item is repeated during the week or the upcoming week. Certain other problems related to menu variety still remain. Issues like cold milk during snacks and chocolate powder still remain. According to the Sodexo team, they are not authorised to serve either of them due to contractual obligations.

Problems related to food temperature were solved. During winters, the food used to get really cold. For this, food rotation was used as a solution. After every half an hour, hot food was served. Roti’s also were being served on a rotational basis.

After the rotational basis of serving food, the waiting for food during all the three meals and snacks was resolved upto a certain extent.

Vending machines have been ordered by the sodexo team. Food options such as sandwiches, burgers are now available in the vending machine. FMC has also proposed to put a vending machine in the Academic block. The proposal is still under process and will be discussed again in the next term.

Coffee machines have been installed in SH4 and SH3. More machines have been asked to get. These machines have the card system which has to be recharged from delicious. For Rs. 500, 30-45 cups of coffee will be available. The boys hostel will have coffee machines after due discussion.

FMC has also suggested revamping the look of Delicious with its food menu. A lot of complaints were received regarding the food quality in Delicious. The matter has been taken up and will be implemented in its next term.

As collaboration with the Sodexo, FMC proposed to get fresh fruits from the Sonipat vendors every evening. However, the said proposal was turned down. The vendors on campus bring fresh fruits for the students.

The Equipments in kitchen which were in non working condition which were resolved by the Sodexo team.
Long term goals
-
The FMC hopes to get a pay per meal system in the mess. As per the contract, the sodexo is paid for all the meals in advance. This particular goal can be achieved only once the current contract goes for renewal, which may take long.

Apart from the pay per meal system, the FMC also hopes to get a card system for the other vendors on campus.
On the special request of the University administration, the JGLS Student Council agreed to include members of other colleges in the FMC. Ishita and Shivam are representatives of JSGP.
