JGLS Student Grievance Resolution Cell 2014-15

INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE
Committee Report for Semester A, 2014-15.
In the first meeting the Infrastructure committee decided to have weekly meetings in the evening.
If any member misses more than half of meetings, then they will be automatically asked to leave the committee. Voting will be done if any decision needs to be made. The Committee decided to give Student Council members the veto vote in case of deadlocks or otherwise.
There were various goals, which were set for the semester such as issues relating to the toilets on in academic block, issues with the water dispenser and various other nagging issues requiring immediate attention.
Our goals set for the semester included:
-
Drafting a document and making people aware of our functions so they may approach us for any grievances they face pertaining to the housing committee.
-
Check for discrepancies of water dispensers in hostels and also if their location needs to changed
-
Check and resolve the stinking and leaking of toilets in the Academic block and do overall sweep check of such issues across the campus
-
Proper placement of dustbins.
Actions taken regarding achievements
-
With regards to the possible need for addition of water coolers in the girls’ hostels, it was found that no addition was required. We also found that no new orders for same are placed for requirement by the wardens as well. We were confirmed that the new water coolers in SH3 and SH4 will become functional once the RO lines are laid down; post the same, there will be one water cooler per floor. This has been implemented successfully.
-
Another issue was that the dispenser placed in all hostels were dirty, it was immediately resolved by having a meeting with Chief Warden and other respective wardens and it was directed to Sodexo workers by the wardens that immediately all the water cans should be replaced with the new ones and a deep cleaning of all the water dispensers was promptly done.
-
With regards to the availability of glasses near water dispensers, we spoke to Mr. Anoop from Sodexo, who reassured that there will be no discrepancy regarding glasses for water dispensers in Academic block, from now onwards.
-
With regards to checking for any requirement of dustbins in classes, we found that there are 55 dustbins recently procured by Avnirmata Society (Large size). The placement will be taken care by Avnirmata Society accordingly.
-
Regarding the lifts issue, each person talked to the respective warden & also identified which lifts were problematic and accordingly chalked down various lift problems. Each person talked to the warden to check regarding the alarm issue, electricity issue, and calling issue in the lifts. It was found that this coordination will need to be carried on forward post exams in the new semester, as no such system is currently in place.
-
There was a major issue noted pertaining to the garbage disposal at rooftop café at academic block. The issue was promptly resolved with the help of Sodexo workers. In addition to that, the administration, in consultation with the Student Council, gave instructions to the owner of Juice & More to procure proper dustbins for the rooftop café. This has been implemented.
-
Another thing was that we were supposed to circulate was a survey which will focus on the problems faced by students at campus. The same will be done with the new semester.
-
The washrooms at academic block used to be really dirty, a meeting was called with Sodexo and the issue was raised, during this meeting, it was decided that there will be an hourly check will be conducted by Sodexo workers and the needful will be done.
-
For the issues regarding pesticide spraying & fogging – we coordinated with the medical centre and health committee regarding the frequency of the pesticide spraying and fogging measures. It was found that the current pesticide spraying and fogging measures in place, are more than sufficient. The same was also checked and verified by an outside doctor. There are no excessive measures required otherwise it may lead to the air being poisoned.
-
However, the HOD of Infrastructure was asked by the Student Council in the HOD Meeting to send out warning emails before fogging is done, so that students with respiratory conditions, and otherwise, may take measures to stay indoors.
Future goals
-
Take up preexisting issues from previous semester, ensure we sustain the problems we resolved and maintain our procedures in place for any issues.
-
Chalk out designs for Nescafe Area and Student Food village, depending also on direction taken from SGRC and University Administration
-
Take out information regarding on possible new student housing, so we may be able to give our inputs and suggestions.
